Automotive parts Industry in Mexico to Reach $124B Growth

The automotive parts industry in Mexico is becoming a key part of global manufacturing. It is set to reach a production value of $124,014 million by 2025. This growth comes from the rising demand for car parts in North America, especially in the United States. It is also supported by foreign investment that boosts the country's production capacity.

The National Auto Parts Industry (INA) reports that Mexico made $121,693 million in automotive parts in 2024. This shows a 1.20% increase from the year before.

Expansion driven by integration with the United States and foreign investment

The automotive parts industry in Mexico is growing. This growth is linked to its role in the U.S. automotive supply chain. Since 2010, Mexico's production of car parts has grown by 140%. This shows how important the country is for making automotive components.
This growth has been helped by foreign direct investment (FDI). In 2024, FDI reached $2,467 million. This is a 21.51% increase from last year.
The states that gained the most from this investment are Chihuahua, Nuevo León, and Estado de México. These regions are important for moving the industry forward.

Mexico: leader in automotive parts exports to the United States

Mexico remains the top supplier of automotive parts to the United States, accounting for 42.86% of the total automotive parts imports into the country. Canada ranks second with 9.96%.
Mexico is an important part of the Mexico-United States-Canada Agreement (USMCA). It makes up 55% of Mexico’s exports to the United States. These exports include several items. They are spark plug wire assemblies, body parts, seats, combustion engines, catalytic converters, brakes, and steering wheels.

Diversification and regional growth in automotive parts production

The INA report also highlighted the Mexican states with the highest automotive parts production. Among the top states are:

Notably, Yucatán (8.13%) and Zacatecas (6.56%) saw significant growth, while states like Nuevo León and Guanajuato continued to show high production rates. This diversification in regional production allows Mexico to maintain a competitive position both in the domestic market and in international exports.

The growing presence of China in the automotive parts sector

The importation of automotive parts from China has also played a significant role in Mexico’s automotive industry. In 2024, automotive parts imported from China accounted for 35.08% of Mexico's total imports, particularly in products like audio and video equipment, car bodies, and tires. Although there was a slight increase in participation compared to 2023 (36.06%), it remains part of a growing trend since 2022 (28.27%).

Additionally, China also has a strong presence in automotive parts imports to the United States (53.12%) and Canada (11.80%).

Future outlook: innovation and strategic cooperation

The future of Mexico’s automotive parts industry looks promising, with sustained growth and greater integration with key markets such as the United States and Canada.
By 2025, Mexico is expected to surpass $124 billion in production, further consolidating its role as a leader in automotive parts manufacturing.

To ensure long-term success, technological innovation and international cooperation are essential. Continued collaboration between Mexico, the United States, and Canada will be key to maintaining the competitiveness of the industry.

As the demand for automotive parts grows, the Mexican automotive industry is boosted not just by higher domestic production but also by strong foreign investment. The industry is also focused on specialized, advanced components like electrical parts, suspension and steering systems, and transmissions.

Which cars are made in Mexico?

Mexican vehicles are gaining international attention, with many Mexican car manufacturers producing models for top global brands. From Mexican car companies to auto manufacturers in Mexico, the country has become a major player in the global automotive industry. Car factories in Mexico produce vehicles for brands like General Motors, Nissan, Volkswagen, and BMW.

In conclusion, the Mexican automotive parts industry continues to grow and strengthen, playing a key role in Mexico's economy and setting the standard for high-quality components worldwide. With strong growth expected by 2025, Mexico is set to stay a leading force in the international automotive parts market.
